Title: Facebook, Whatsapp, and Instagram are down...
Post by: Jason Knight on 4 Oct 2021, 12:42:49 pm
And it seems to be a DNS issue, though a few saved IP addy's for domains are doing timeouts as well. Be interesting to see what the root cause is... Is it a malicious attack, or a simple screwup?

Laugh is, quite often the latter is harder to recover from.

Facebook, Whatsapp, and Instagram are down...

As one who has always avoided, like the plague,
all social media sites, this is music to my ears.

If they were to be  down only for as long as a
performance of "Wagner's Ring Cycle" then
for me that would be a pure joy.  ;D

I just checked and delighted that Facebook appears to be working OK.

I can now enjoy and like posts from family and friends located in numerous countries… far  easier than personal email or messages.

Also looking forward to reading Jason’s latest Facebook rant :)

Since I have never used any of those, and probably never will, them being down will not directly affect me.

What DOES affect me is that my high-speed cable has been down all week, so I am stuck with dialup internet until it is fixed. Would not be a real problem EXCEPT I had a large file to download that took over 8 hours instead of minutes. Unfortunately, I had no choice other than watching the paint dry.

@mmerlinn,

What did you use to download the large file?

Try RSYNC or the graphical version, GRSYNC, both of which are available on all platforms. The tool is quick because  only differences are synchronized and the differences are Zipped/unzipped.

Well worth a try IMHO.

I used FireFTP.

Never heard of RSYNC/GRSYNC so know nothing about them.

Once I get cable back I will look into them.

Thanks.
