Yes, put that date in your diary. If you don't you will have completely forgotten about the expiration of this suspension and will forget to log back in to see what has happened over the last thousand years.  :) :) :)

I assume this means that they have reset your biological clock to expire sometime after their suspension expires.  ENJOY THE NEXT THOUSAND YEARS!!!

Okay, a lifetime suspension.... I still can't believe you would have done something bad enough to warrant a suspension (ban?).

I am surprised that I lasted so long.  ::)

Sitepoint describes itself as family friendly which
in reality actually  equates to individual hostile:D

Is this suspension a good or bad thing from your prospective?
Is the penalty a restriction to just view the site contents
or that you cannot submit opinions/suggestions/code etc.?

Who does the decision depend upon to warrant a suspension?
What is the review process to ban or suspend or warn?

Do they have an appeal process?
Do you need a testimonial of your worth from us?  You have my vote.

I would question whether the site has overcome the Y2K threat from 21 years ago.
Maybe they are not as advanced as they think. :)

I just think that it is childishly silly.

A thousand year suspension is a ban, so why piss around?
Sitepoint, though, in it's infinite wisdom always has a problem
when it comes to calling a spade a spade::)

I may only view contents in the same manner as a non-member.

No idea.

That is a kind gesture, but as  GrumpyYoungMan has pointed out
I could bypass attempts to keep me out with an alter ego.

This is the information that loyal members, and an alter ego, can
see about me...

...which is much more than deathshadow gets.  8)

But I do quite like being contemptible coothead.

Hey, welcome to the permaban club. I've been banned from there for near on a decade now.

I always found Sitepoint to be a den of suck-ups and sycophants. It's not about doing anything well, or cleaner, or better, and people who ACTUALLY try to help others get shouted down by staff members who have raging boners for their favorite pet techniques and frameworks, and flat out refuse to hear that anything they promote might be broken.

Hell, the post that threw it over the line for them was me telling Paul O'B that no, REM (at the time) didn't work in Firefox properly always reporting a 16px equivalent even when the system size and OS size was changed, unlike EM that worked properly.

Two months later I found that if you put font-size:1EM; on HTML, it fixed FF. Native fix didn't come until quantum.

Sadly I think that's a lot of what's killing forums. Used to be you could go these various places to get real help. Today everyone just says "copy from this framework". Often not the framework someone is already using, often not solving the problem, and the people who DO actually try and help all get banned, and people looking for real help just give up and walk away. They've made these bubbles of like-minded head bobbing "yes men" where you simply cannot go to get real help or voice anything that disagrees with their bullshit.

And it doesn't matter how politely or rudely you put it. Remember, I was banned from a forum just a year and a half ago for simply outlining what was wrong with someone's site. There was no profanity, no insults, but I dared to not just given them a pat on the back and tell them everything was fine when it clearly wasn't. THAT was what threw it over the line.

Hashnode, DEV, Sitepoint, Mos Eisley Spaceport... Hives of scum and villainy. The only difference between the first three and the last one is that they hide what utter dirtbags run these places behind a fake plastered on smile, a shower of platitudes, and claims that they're justified in behaving that way to be "family friendly" for "positive vibes only".

... and there's a term for that. "Toxic Positivity". It's a controlling manipulative way to try and convince people a waffle cone of shit is chocolate soft-serve. A means of painting any dissenter as the bad guy so that the scam artists and snake oil peddlers can ply their wares.

Worst of all, most people seem conditioned for it to be normal and acceptable, no matter how immoral, indecent, or just plain dumbass the stance being defended is.

Oh BTW, my ban was far worse than yours in that whilst they left all my posts up on their forums, they changed the username on every single one of them to "System".

That's about as douchebag a move as you can make in forum moderation.

I did point that out in my previous post, albeit in a roundabout way.

This thread was started just to point out the silliness of imposing  a suspension
that will probably expire after the demise of the human race.

Sitepoint's methods have just been changed from obliterating  members from
view to displaying them as a contemptible miscreants.

As a matter of interest, as a test, I created  new personas
on both the Tor browser and a VPN connection.

This allowed me to sign in to Sitepoint as new members,
but within 24 hours i discovered that I had been banned
with the insinuation that I was the original suspended/
banned member.

As i assumed that Tor and VPN provided anonymity
does anyone know how this discovery was achieved?

Honestly if you replied to a number of the same threads in the same manner, that's likely all they needed to nail you down. It's actually very hard to stop being "you". I was involved for a long time in a (once) high traffic gaming forum as admin, and "The usual suspects" were oft quite easy to recognize just by how they talk and what they posted about.

I was, obviously, aware that a coothead style would need to be
avoided, so I did not make any replies, and my only activity  was
to fill in a basic profile. I even signed up as female in one of the
tests.
