No emails?
« on: 17 Nov 2023, 05:37:00 am »
I tried updating my email address and I did not receive the activation code?

Also I do not seem to be getting any reply notifications any more, this seems to have happened since the change of email did not work?

I'll look into it. Could be a problem on my end or yours. Most of the time this happens one or the other lacks a working PTR record so the spam filters at either end go "now way"

See how hotmail and gmail take turns telling large swaths of websites "no soup for you" over stupid little details that actually have nothing to do with security, no matter how much they claim it does.

I'm now reasonably sure the problem is on your end. When I manually re-activated your account I sent a reply via hotmail / live / outlook / whateverTheFrigM$CallsItThisWeek instead of from my server as a precaution. I just found this in my mailbox:

Quote
Delivery has failed to these recipients or groups:

{snip, removed address for privacy}
Your message wasn't delivered. Despite repeated attempts to deliver your message, the recipient's email system refused to accept a connection from your email system.

The most common cause of that is a domain not having a valid entries.

I'm a little surprised I got mails from you. The domain is utterly jacked, the lack of an SPF should have bounced off my server.

Digging deeper, I'm not sure you even have MX records, and if you do they're horribly misconfigured.

Neither your domain or server are configured to handle e-mails properly.

I’ll have a look, and thank you, and thanks for removing the details to protect my privacy!

Is it because I am using the anything@my-domain.com?

Unlikely. That wouldn't effect the domain itself lacking working MX, PTR, SPF, and so forth. You're outright missing DNS records to the point the only ones that seem to work are your "A"

did you create MX records?

D’oh!! School boy error as it doesn’t look like i did; I thought I created the A record for the mail, but it doesn’t look like I did, I’ll also create this MX record too… thank you!

I don’t understand why my test email I send myself gets through…?

Thanks again for helping, I appreciate it!

I think I have done it.

Not done the SPF records as this is only going to be used for mainly incoming email.

I also guess now Jason, you know a little bit about me…. 🤔😂😂😂😂 so thanks again for protecting my privacy, I appreciate it!

Did you sent it from a third party like Hotmail or Gmail, or did you send it from an account on the same server.

MX/SPF aren't checked on the server as the server knows who/what it is. Those records exist for the rest of the world.

Which is why you don't test incoming e-mail from your own mail servers.

It was sent from one gmail account to another gmail account but using the same SMTP service 🤦🏽‍♂️ if I have a problem again, I will use the actual Gmail account, not my domain! 🤪🙊🤦🏽‍♂️ (basically I forward all *@my-domain.com emails to the gmail account, I only actually have about 2 properly configured mailboxes)

Thanks for your help, I appreciate it!

Should probably stick to my day job, a little bit of knowledge is dangerous after all!
