Can politics or religion be discussed here?

I don't think you're a big fan of either, so I am asking.

I don't think you're a big fan of either, so I am asking.

The zoo is for topics that are generally forbidden in regular posting. It's called the zoo because this is where you get to behave like an animal.

Think of it as a pressure release, a place to let go of pent up frustration. A place for truly heated discussion to be handled and moved to so that it doesn't soil the actual "regular" threads.

So if you want to talk about the orange cheeto-fingered commander in half-tweet and his bald-faced lies, sleazy dirtbag predators like Paltrow or Mercola, or the halfwitted fairy tales about a magical man in the sky who will curse you to eternal torment -- because he loves you... Well, this is the place.

So long as you keep it in the zoo, don't post porn, and self-censor enough that we're not filled with F-Bombs, it's fine and dandy here.

The only thing really restricted in the zoo is outright hate speech such as bigotry and racism, and even then I've got a bit of a pharaoh complex on that. As Ramses II would say:

"Let him speak, so that sane men may know him mad."

Hence why unlike every other part of these forums, this image:

or this one:

... are entirely acceptable in the zoo, but would be instantly removed and the user issued a warning if posted to any other section of these forums.

The decade I spent managing a major gaming forums taught me that it's easier to give people a place where it's ok to misbehave, than it is to try and lock it out completely. We all have dark sides, we all have bad days, and we can't all agree about everything all the time.

Sooner or later you end up banning otherwise useful users -- which is where you end up with dens of suck-ups and sycophants like Sitepoint where if you look at any threads over two years old, it looks like they banned 80%+ of all active users given the number of posts attributed to "system" instead of an actual user. I was looking for some old posts of mine from a decade ago, and was shocked to see that everyone other than Paul O'B in the thread had been banned. EVERYONE!!! I started poking around and it was like that for nearly every other post of that era.

Seriously, go look at old threads over there, it's comically tragic. I have to laugh it's so pathetic. How the blazes are they even still around?

Oh, that's right, it's a front for selling books filled with disinformation. They have physical products to keep things afloat. Christmas only knows you don't go there if you actually want help -- or scarier still actually want to help people. It reeks of a sociopathic lack of empathy mated to an innate need to keep people ignorant enough to easily rip them off.

The only place more mercenary than them is DigitalPoint, but at least DP is HONEST about who they are, what they're doing, and why they do it.

Sadly I see hashnode fully determined to go down that same road. Sad as the place has a lot of potential, but they're pissing it away with stamping out dissent, looking for reasons to kick people out of their echo chamber, and a general mismanagement that's outright cringe-worthy.

The majority of banned users consist of the single spam post attempts who take less than a minute to read other posts.

That's not what I saw. I even recognized who a few of those posters may have been, and they don't fit that description. At least half of them would have been legitimate users I helped who's usernames are still in my for_others directory.

I mean, I've always known that SP has had severe over-moderation issues knee-jerking into banning anyone who dares to question the media darlings; I mean, sure I'm gonna get banned there, that's expected... but Gary-SC wouldn't last any longer and he's WAY more polite in ripping at this BS. If Dan and Aaron hadn't died they surely would have been banned by now. Pretty sure Dan's rolling over in his grave over what they've become; a laughing stock.

-- edit -- no, not a laughing stock. It's a parody of public discourse and an echo-chamber for the peddling of lies, bunko, disinformation, and bad practices.

Is the United States a Christian Nation?

That's a fun one. I always go to the source on that topic.

"As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen; and as the said States never entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mahometan (Mohammedan) nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries."

-- Treaty of Tripoli, co-written by, signed by John Adams.

You know Adams, right, co-writer of the Declaration of Independence, signer of same, 2nd president of the US. Lawyer who defended the British soldiers from the Boston Massacre on the grounds that everyone is entitled to fair representation...

"The purpose of separation of church and state is to keep forever from these shores the ceaseless strife that has soaked the soil of Europe in blood for centuries."
-- James Madison

"One good schoolmaster is of more use than a hundred priests."
-- Thomas Paine

... or for the 20th century:

"I believe in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute - where no Catholic prelate would tell the President (should he be Catholic) how to act, and no Protestant minister would tell his parishioners for whom to vote - where no church or church school is granted any public funds or political preference - and where no man is denied public office merely because his religion differs from the President who might appoint him or the people who might elect him.

I believe in an America that is officially neither Catholic, Protestant nor Jewish - where no public official either requests or accepts instructions on public policy from the Pope, the National Council of Churches or any other ecclesiastical source - where no religious body seeks to impose its will directly or indirectly upon the general populace or the public acts of its officials - and where religious liberty is so indivisible that an act against one church is treated as an act against all."

-- John F. Kennedy

Which would be about the same time the mouth-breathing faith-tards managed to get "Under God" shoe-horned into the socialist indoctrination speech that wasn't even recognized at the federal level until post-Pearl panic legislation; a loyalty oath as evil, insidious, and manipulative as the Jugendweihe or any other piece of fascist control.

You'll hear the "faithful" use that one all the time... But what about the pledge of allegiance? ENTIRELY a work of the 20th century, not the 18th. NOT recognized by the US government until 1942 being shoved through more akin to the patriot act than out of any sane and rational thought... with "Under God" not even being part of it until 1954.

But sure, Christian nation... of course it is. I swear these Christians will believe almost any halfwitted BS you try to sell them. Like a magical man who knows everything that is going to happen because he created it which is why he's going to punish you for what he created... because he loves you.

Would have been better if my bbCode wasn't utterly banjaxed. Fixed.

I think that it would  fair to present a general view of the those who are...

For Religion:-

...before those who are...

Against Religion
